3 DAYS: QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK
A wonderful introduction to the amazing abundance of wildlife in the Queen Elizabeth National Park. This tour is suitable for a weekend break from Kampala.
Day 1: Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Set off early to drive south west to the Queen Elizabeth National Park, stopping on the way at the Equator and later for lunch. Continue through the ever-changing landscapes, past cultivation, swamps, vast rolling hills, tea plantations and crater lakes before reaching the escarpment on the edge of the Western Rift Valley with wonderful views over the Maramagambo Forest and the plains of the Park. You have a wide choice of accommodation for your two nights, either right in the Park or just outside the boundary.
Day 2: Queen Elizabeth National Park
Have an early morning game drive. Expect to see lions, elephants, buffalo, waterbuck, Uganda kob and warthogs. If you are lucky, you may also see a leopard, jackals and hyenas, as well as many birds.
After lunch, take a relaxing two hour boat trip along the Kazinga Channel when you should see Nile crocodiles, hippos, buffalo and elephants all enjoying the water, as well as other animals higher up the steep banks. There are many birds along the water's edge, which may include fish eagles, cormorants, gulls, storks, pelicans, kingfishers, skimmers, waders and many more. You will also see fishermen preparing their boats and nets to set off for a night of fishing on Lake Edward.
Day 3: Queen Elizabeth National Park to Kampala
Set off after an early breakfast to start the drive back to Kampala. To have the opportunity to do a circular route and experience more of western Uganda, you will return via Kasese, Fort Portal and Mubende, stopping en route for lunch.
